REDCAR BOROUGH PARK BOWLING CLUB

The original Redcar Borough Park B.C. was a men only club playing on council greens
and operating from accommodation within Borough Park. It is now an amalgamation of
the original club and bowlers from the Redcar East Community Association. The present
clubhouse was built in the 1980's on land that the members had the foresight to purchase
from Redcar Racecourse. The four rink indoor facility was added in 1996 with the
help of a grant of some 45% of the cost from the English Sports Council Lottery Fund.
The
club continues to be run on an almost entirely voluntary basis which is a tribute
to the hard work and dedication of a number of the members. By developing the way
it has, the club has tried to retain a family atmosphere and become an integral part
of the community which can be enjoyed by both bowlers and social members on an equal
basis.
Improvements made in recent years include a new car park, c.c.tv upgrade,
a new indoor bowling carpet, toilet refurbishments, an automatic irrigation system
and perimeter fencing for the outdoor greens.
A legacy from twice former President Harry Aspland enabled the club to purchase a computer based information system and two memorial benches.
