SURVEY: HOW COMPETITIVE IS A BOWLS PLAYER?

The University of Portsmouth is currently conducting research into the competitiveness of bowls players and will look into how much thrill and adventure a bowler seeks.

The survey will gain insights into the personality types that bowls attracts and how competitive a bowler is.

The survey uses two widely used questionnaires in sport and exercise science - Zuckerman’s Sensation Seeking Scale (SSS-V) and Houston’s Revised Competitiveness Index (CI-R).

The questions may at first glance seem a bit peculiar, however they are acknowledged in science for being reliable indicators for how much people seek thrill and adventure.

The results should in their own right be quite interesting, and could be used to challenge any common myths surrounding the sport. They will be used as part of a comparative analysis in a study that asks the same questions to Parkour participants.

Bowls England would appreciate as many bowlers as possible to answer and share the survey, which should take only a couple of minutes of your time to complete.
